FAQ.

  • button Is the BMW Military Sales Program associated with the any of the other programs currently available through the US Military PX/BX system?

No, this is an independent direct factory program sponsored by BMW AG in Munich. The program was originally introduced almost thirty years ago as a “thank you” to US military personnel for their efforts in maintaining peace in Europe. Since that time the program has evolved into one of the most successful programs of it’s kind and now serves US military personnel in several countries around the world.

  • button Is there a limit to the number of vehicles I can purchase through the Military Sales Program?

Yes, upon signing the condition of Purchase for new vehicles, you are obligated to restrict your purchase to a certain amount. The Military Sales Program in Munich has the right to withdraw or amend orders

  • button Is it possible to participate in the BMW Military Sales Program if I’m stationed in the USA?

No, in order to use this special program your Duty Station must be located outside the USA and it’s territories. Alternatively, you must be in possession of TDY/TAD orders (or deployed) to a foreign location at the time you place your BMW order.

  • button Is it possible for both DoD civilian employees and civilians contracted to the US Military to participate in this program?

Yes, both groups may participate in the program providing the person holds a valid US Military ID Card and is assigned on official orders to a location outside the USA and it’s territories

  • button Are prices in the program set, or do I have to negotiate in order to obtain the lowest possible price?

No, this is an element of the BMW program that military customers like the most - you don’t have to do battle with a salesperson to get the best deal. The lowest price has already been negotiated on your behalf and prices are set in US Dollars (unaffected by daily currency fluctuations.). No agency within the Military Sales Program may arbitrarily alter the prices. The price you see is the price you pay and everyone pays the same!

  • button May I custom order a BMW with my own color/option configuration?

Yes, that’s actually how the majority of people use the program. Providing your chosen configuration is available within the BMW program in the United States, you may specify your own preferred color/option configuration. A reasonably accurate delivery projection will be provided at the time of order. (There are of course a small number of models that may be chosen from stock for those people with more immediate requirements.)

  • button If I decide to place an order, how does the down payment work?

Although you may intend to make a higher total down payment, the minimum amount required by BMW at the time of order is as follows:

    1 Series: $1,000     X1: $1,000

    2 Series: $1,000     X3: $2,000

    3 Series: $1,500     X4: $2,500

    4 Series: $2,000     X5: $3,000

    5 Series: $3,000     X6: 10%

    6 Series: 10%        Z4: $2,000

    7 Series: 10%        M Series: 10%

Kolon Motors will accept this initial payment by way of a personal check, cash or bank-transfer. If the total amount of the car purchase is to be financed, the initial down payment will be refunded to you upon our receipt of your finance check.

  • button If I’m deployed to a location in the Middle East/Asia or based on-board a ship and would like to participate in the program, how can I place an order?

The process is very easy. Simply send us an e-mail or a Request for Information form (found on our website) and your inquiry will be assigned to a BMW product advisor who will assist you in selecting the model and option configuration best suited to your needs. Once that has been established you will then be guided through the ordering process – all of which can all be conducted over e-mail or fax.

  • button In the event that I’m unable to obtain financing for my purchase, what happens if I need to withdraw my order?

When placing your order, you will receive written conditions, which safeguard your initial down payment in the event that you are unable to secure financing for your BMW purchase. It is requested that you apply for a loan within 5 days of placing your order, so that availability of financing may be established as soon as possible.

  • button What about the paperwork?

You simply order your car, and Kolon Motors will take care of everything else. We will assist with import and customs clearance in Korea, ensuring hassle-free purchase and delivery throughout the world.

  • button What kind of Warranty comes with a BMW purchased through this program?

The car comes with a 24-month/unlimited-mileage warranty in Europe and 48-month/50,000 mile in the USA. Both warranties run concurrently from the delivery acceptance date. Should your ownership in Europe exceed the 24-month warranty period, your local BMW Service dealer can offer additional warranty cover at reasonable prices.

  • button Will the BMW Full Maintenance Program cover my BMW?

This particular program applies only in the USA (48-month/50,000-mile) and does not cover the servicing of US models outside the USA. However, the program would be available once your BMW is in the USA (providing it still falls within the stated mileage/in-service parameters).

  • button If I take delivery of a BMW in Korea, where could the recommended servicing and warranty work be carried out?

Although your BMW will have been manufactured to US specifications, any authorized Korean BMW service center may perform any scheduled maintenance or carry out any warranty work that may be necessary. If you are based in an area where Kolon Motors has a sales facility, simply check out the relevant location page on our website for details of your closest BMW service dealer.

  • button Is it possible to have my BMW shipped directly to the USA?

Unfortunately, we no longer service for deliver to USA. Please contact to BMW NA for further inquiry.

  • button Do all cars sold in this program conform to US Import requirements?

Yes, not only do they fully conform to US federal regulations but they also fulfil all legal requirements in the state of California.

  • button What is my Federal Import Tax liability in the USA if I purchase through this program?

Import Tax is charged at 2.5% of the total value stated on the Bill of Sale. As a general rule the criteria for free (non-taxable) importation is that the owner must have been stationed abroad for 140 consecutive days and has taken physical possession of the vehicle while stationed abroad. A copy of official military (PCS) orders must accompany the vehicle being shipped and as some US ports of entry stipulate a minimum mileage requirement in order to avoid Import Tax, it is also recommended that your vehicle be shipped with a minimum of 500 miles at the time of importation.

Depending upon whether you are Military, Civilian (GS) or DOD contractor, the rules can vary. If you’re unsure just check with the relevant department or visit the official US Customs Website and navigate to the relevant section.

  • button What is my State Sales Tax liability if I purchase through this program?

In the case of State Sales Tax it is impossible to list definitive criteria as each individual state views both rates and liability differently. As a general rule you should expect to pay some form of tax upon first registration in the USA. However, as a military person you may qualify for exemption or if the vehicle has already been bought and owned out of state (sometimes for a specified time period) this may also fulfil criteria for exemption. It’s always a good idea to try to obtain first-hand information from the appropriate local office. For an overview of the various State rates click www.taxadmin.org then navigate to the relevant section.

*Neither Kolon Motors nor its representatives will be responsible for any form of tax liability incurred on automobiles imported into the USA. As is universally the case, tax liability rests with the individual and ignorance of the appropriate legislation will not be considered as grounds for exemption.
